It moves me. It moves me to know how so much time can pass and yet you can be connected by something so familiar and relateable as if no time passed at all!!! Lynette was my suite mate in our good ole' college days. Our rooms separated by just a bathroom and a couple of footsteps, she became one of "my person's" when moving so far away from home and to such an unfamiliar place. We bonded, we had arguments and I'm sure we rolled eyes at each other a few times to many :) It was like just adding water, and I had an instant sister.
After 9+ years passing by, many jobs, wedding vows, and the birth of two baby boys... we're connected again. It's something like a band-of-mommies. Don't hate, it's true. And, I am beyond thrilled that she road tripped it with her goWageous family to let me document their beautiful love.

Finally picking up the My Life Monday post in the new year. And, since the shoots are coming far and few between in the colder months, family time is a major focus during this time. So, I've been spending a lot of my January frequenting Crate & Barrel with the sista, planning sleepovers with my goWageous God-daughter, trying not to let a date-night slip by without a little recognition and stepping up my scrabble game, and gearing up for Valentines Day sessions. ]]>I've photographed this goWageous momma a few times before and it's always such a joy. But, this time I got the chance to spend a little time with her and her two favorite men. She is a perfect example of the client that I dream of. She appreciates my work, comes back for more AND thinks enough of me to actually wanna be a friend of mine. LOVE!!!
They were troopers and braved the cold weather for me to catch these beautiful memories.

Trying to run a business AND being a full-time mommy of two babies under 2 is HARD! Trying to balance your workload and maintain clear priorities can be so difficult when you have two adorable kiddos needing and wanting EVERYTHING from you. Until now, I'll admit it, I've been afraid of succeeding!
I know that sounds ridiculous but it's the truth.
I've been afraid of not being able to handle an immense amount of clients while still maintaining my signature service AND being an OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD mommy to my Kendy & Cam. But, what I am learning is that tolerating my fears only contaminates my faith. My faith in myself, my faith in God and the fact that it is his will that I reach out and "grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life that he has for me...".
I've heard this before, but this passage really rang true to me today...
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. ]]>I have a serious love of fall family shoots. I guess it's the transition from warm to cool weather that just gives life a cozy-let's-snuggle-up-with-the-family-by-the-fire-and-roast-marshmallows type of feel. Although, I will certainly take new family portraits every single month, a fall session would be a must in my family. And, my love of fall family sessions adds just a tad to why I loved this family session so...

]]>...You know, like one band, one sound... an 'ode to Nick Cannon and Zoe Saldana's Drum Line except for they were many musicians with instruments and I'm just one artist with one body and one lens?!? But, enough with the play on words I really just wanted to talk about my one camera body and my one nifty lens. So, I know it's pretty popular in the photog world to come up with this super impressive and arguably obnoxious list of super fab photo equipment (don't mind me I'm just a hater on the low). See, I built my business and maintain my business on one camera body and one lens and that's what I wanted to talk about today.
I started my business with the Canon Rebel XTI. It is a great starter body (not a full frame camera) and it allowed me to take some pretty awesome images kind of like THESE and THESE (don't laugh, I was a beginner). It came with the kit lens that I have NEVER used. Instead I did a little bloggy research and decided to make my first and only lens purchase thus far. I chose the nifty 50 and we've been tight ever since!!! Things were going great from THIS session to THIS one. My dynamic duo was certainly living up to everything that I needed it to be at the time and then I booked my very first destination wedding... A coworker of Brian's ( who is now a super close friend). Seriously needed to step up my game. So, for my very first Mother's Day the hubs and the big lil' (my oldest baby boy) pooled together and got me my precious Canon 5D Mark II.
I was in love..
They have been my two babies ever since! And allowed me to step my game up a bit and produce images link THIS and THIS! I'm a big fan of my own work... ;)
I was often afraid to mention my lack of "extra" equipment until I found THIS POST from Kelli France of Francypants Academy disclosing the same. Like... I'm not the only one.. And it doesn't make me any less if a photographer!!! It's what I've grown to adore... My one body and one lens. It defines the way I shoot, the way I interact with my clients. It keeps me engaged ... And for now I wouldn't have it any other way!!!!
So, I encourage you to start where you are! I, by no means, have "made it". But, I am proof that you don't NEED to have all the extras to make some things happen. Weather you are a beginning DSLR user or beginning to start any kind of business or endeavor, start where you are.
sidenote: I have been SERIOUSLY considering making a jump from Canon to Nikon?????!!!!????? I'm building my case now and would love it for others to weigh in a bit. Anyone out there switch from Canon to Nikon???
